Polestar unveils practical electric wagon globally while skipping the United States market

Polestar has officially unveiled its new electric wagon globally, offering a more practical design variant that unfortunately leaves American buyers entirely out of the picture. Despite carrying an SUV designation, the vehicle features an elongated roofline that creates a classic station-wagon silhouette, bringing alternative styling options to international markets in the fourth quarter of this year.

American consumers will not see this vehicle on domestic roads because Polestar is exiting the US market due to federal Connected Vehicle regulations targeting Chinese software and hardware. While the front end mirrors the fastback variant with pointed headlights and a trapezoidal bumper opening, the extended roof transforms the vehicle into a much more conventional and planted design.

Practicality takes center stage in this new iteration, highlighted by the addition of a physical glass rear window sitting above the full-width taillight. This design choice corrects a controversial feature from the fastback model that omitted the rear window entirely, allowing the new electric wagon to come standard with a traditional rearview mirror alongside an optional digital display.

Interior flexibility and storage capacity receive substantial upgrades thanks to the boxier rear profile, providing roughly an extra inch of rear headroom for passengers. Cargo volume increases to approximately 23 cubic feet behind the rear seats compared to 19 in the fastback, while folding the seats expands total storage space to 59 cubic feet against the coupe's 54 cubic feet.

Global Rollout Brings New Camping Mode and Tech

Roof rails support a dynamic load of up to 220 pounds to accommodate outdoor gear, while an innovative electrochromic glass roof allows drivers to shift transparency levels between clear, tinted, or selectively shaded sections. Two fresh exterior color choices join the lineup, featuring Aurora silver green and Ozone silver purple to give buyers distinctive aesthetic options.

Performance specifications remain consistent with existing offerings, providing a 268-horsepower single-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration and a robust 536-horsepower dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. A 94.0-kWh battery pack powers the vehicle, delivering up to 391 miles of WLTP range for the rear-drive model and 372 miles for the dual-motor variant, with production taking place in Busan, South Korea.

Advanced features enhance the ownership experience for international buyers, including a newly introduced Camping mode designed to manage climate control, entertainment systems, and ambient lighting while parked. Vehicle-to-load power capabilities also allow users to run external accessories directly from the car battery during outdoor excursions.

Interior layouts maintain the brand's minimalist aesthetic, featuring a large central touchscreen complemented by sustainable materials such as recycled-plastic synthetic fabrics. Buyers can also select premium Bridge of Weir nappa leather, which the company highlights as a chrome-free by-product sourced responsibly from the food industry.
