New Lexus NX update brings next-gen hybrid tech and dynamics honed on the Nurburgring

New Lexus NX models are set to arrive with a comprehensive slate of upgrades, headlined by next-generation hybrid power, striking exterior revisions, state-of-the-art interior technology, and a driving experience specifically tuned on the Nurburgring racetrack. The Japanese manufacturer's updated mid-size SUV aims to maintain its competitive edge against dominant luxury rivals like the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 when order books open.

The vehicle continues to be offered in both 350h full-hybrid and 450h+ plug-in hybrid variants, with the latter benefiting from a massive boost in efficiency courtesy of sixth-generation hybrid architecture. The plug-in hybrid model's battery capacity has expanded from 18 to 23kWh, extending the pure electric driving range from 46 to 60 miles while supporting DC fast charging capabilities that replenish the pack in under 30 minutes.

Performance figures for the plug-in variant see a healthy bump to 303 horsepower, slashing the 0 to 62mph sprint time down to 6.1 seconds. Meanwhile, the full-hybrid model utilizes optimized battery cell architecture to shed weight while maintaining its 196-horsepower output, allowing four-wheel-drive variants to achieve the same sprint in a much swifter 7.3 seconds.

Lexus engineers focused heavily on driving dynamics, making the NX the brand's first model to undergo specific tuning for the European market via rigorous testing at the Nurburgring. The resulting chassis revisions feature a 10mm lower driving position, retuned steering mechanics, recalibrated suspension geometry, and increased body rigidity to enhance agility and comfort on winding roads.

Refined Design and Upgraded Cabin Technology

Refined styling cues distinguish the latest iteration, highlighted by a revised spindle grille flanked by innovative LED running lights that incorporate a dual horizontal light strip sandwiching the headlamps. At the rear, an illuminated Lexus script complements the full-width light bar, while darker alloy wheel options ranging from 18 to 20 inches round out the exterior updates.

Inside the cabin, the layout undergoes a radical modernization with a brand-new dashboard configuration centered around a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a massive 14-inch touchscreen display. While climate control rotary dials have been replaced by touch-sensitive alternatives below the screen, the steering wheel retains physical controls alongside prominent Lexus lettering.

Luxury finishes such as stitched leather accent the dashboard, while high-end touches include customizable air-vent fragrances and an optional 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system equipped with bespoke ambient lighting. Passenger safety also receives a significant upgrade through the integration of the advanced Safety System+ suite, featuring wider hazard detection sensors and predictive adaptive cruise control.

Prospective buyers can expect order books to open in spring 2027, with official pricing anticipated to see a modest increase over the outgoing model's entry threshold. This robust package of technological and mechanical enhancements underscores Lexus's commitment to dominating the competitive premium crossover landscape.
