2027 Lexus NX Hybrid Refresh, Bolder Face and All-Hybrid Lineup

2027 Lexus NX models are heading to dealerships with a bolder exterior design and a fully electrified powertrain lineup that completely drops traditional nonhybrid options. As the second-most popular model for the brand in the United States, this mid-cycle refresh introduces crucial mechanical upgrades and modern tech.

The updated lineup features either the standard hybrid NX350h or the plug-in hybrid NX450h+, both continuing to utilize a 2.5-liter inline-four gas engine paired with a continuously variable transmission. While the gasoline-only NX350 with its turbocharged engine has been permanently scrapped, the remaining hybrid options deliver enhanced performance and efficiency.

The plug-in hybrid NX450h+ receives substantial engineering updates, including a compact, lightweight e-axle and a new lithium-ion battery boasting 30 percent more capacity. These improvements yield a total output of 322 horsepower and an increased electric-only driving range of approximately 40 miles.

Additionally, the plug-in variant now supports DC fast-charging capabilities, significantly reducing downtime on long road trips. Lexus also reprogrammed the powertrain control unit for smoother transitions between electric and gas power while creating a more linear acceleration feel.

Sharper Styling and a Cleaner Cabin Layout

Exterior styling tweaks give the unibody luxury crossover a more assertive stance, highlighted by a wider grille seamlessly linked to newly redesigned LED headlights. Two fresh exterior paint options, Shaded Ivy and Incognito, further distinguish the latest model year from its predecessors.

Inside the cabin, drivers are greeted by a massive standard 14-inch touchscreen perched atop a horizontally oriented, minimalist dashboard. Climate controls have been cleverly integrated into the digital display or replaced with sleek illuminated buttons, accompanied by a smaller toggle gear selector.

Rigidity across the entire vehicle body has been significantly enhanced through a reoriented battery-cell layout and reinforced front and rear unibody architecture. These structural changes work alongside new ultra-low-speed valve dampers to minimize road noise and deliver superior handling agility.

The vehicle also equips the comprehensive Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 suite, featuring advanced pre-collision automatic emergency braking, lane-departure alert, and a standard built-in dashcam. The refreshed luxury SUV is scheduled to arrive at dealerships before the end of the year.
