Nio Launches 4000th Battery Swap Station Supporting Firefly
Nio is set to launch its 4,000th battery swap station in Quanzhou on August 7, featuring the first 5th-gen technology to support Firefly vehicles.

Fifth Generation Station Features
The new 5th-generation stations introduce long-awaited support for the compact Firefly hatchback. Previous swap stations only accommodated larger vehicles under the Nio and Onvo brands.
Latest-generation stations can complete a swap in 1 minute and 48 seconds. They carry up to 28 battery packs to handle peak travel seasons across China.
The upgraded network handles up to 500 swaps daily, representing a 20% performance increase over previous 4th-generation hardware.
Network Scale and Technology
Nio remains China's only new energy vehicle maker relying solely on battery swapping technology. The company markets this infrastructure under the Nio Power brand as a smart power service solution.
As of August 2026, Nio operates 3,994 active swap stations worldwide. The network has performed nearly 120 million individual battery swaps since 2018.
The swapping process is fully automated while occupants remain inside the cabin. Entire procedures take between 3 to 5 minutes at unmanned stations.
Market Growth and Competition
Nio delivered 21,872 domestic units in June 2026 alongside strong numbers from Onvo and Firefly. All three brands continue to experience solid year-on-year monthly sales growth.
Market competition is increasing as battery giant CATL expands its own Choco-SEB swap network. CATL has already constructed more than 700 rival stations to date.
Nio relies on its self-developed ecosystem and Battery-as-a-Service model to maintain its advantage. Leadership must now prove whether these 5th-gen improvements preserve market dominance.
