Paul Aron Replaces Pierre Gasly in Alpine Italian GP FP1

Paul Aron will deputise for Pierre Gasly in FP1 at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza, stepping into the Alpine cockpit for the opening practice session. The Estonian reserve driver's appearance fulfills Formula 1's mandatory rookie requirements for the Enstone-based squad.

Aron is making his fourth FP1 appearance of the 2026 season, having previously represented both Alpine and Audi in practice sessions throughout the year. The 22-year-old former Mercedes junior continues to gain valuable mileage as part of his reserve duties across the grid.

Under current F1 regulations, teams must field a rookie driver who has started no more than two grands prix in four FP1 sessions over the course of the championship. Aron joins other young talents stepping in during Friday practice at Monza, including Luke Browning and Colton Herta.
