McLaren will debut its long-awaited rotating rear wing concept, officially named the "H-wing", at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix. The Woking-based team joins other leading outfits in adopting the innovative "Macarena" style wing, which rotates the top flap 180 degrees between cornering mode and straight-line efficiency.

Following careful evaluations during pre-season testing and subsequent development sessions, technical director for engineering Neil Houldey confirmed that the team is fully ready to deploy the upgrade at Monza. "This weekend, we have brought what we believe is needed to be competitive, including a new low-drag rear wing specification, including the first use of our H-wing," Houldey stated.

The unique moniker pays homage to McLaren's famous history of clever technical naming conventions, specifically referencing the "H" in the Etihad Airways branding displayed prominently on the rear wing of the MCL40. This follows a successful developmental path that saw earlier prototype iterations shelved in Austria due to performance sign-off caution before showing promising results in Hungary.

McLaren heads into the historic Temple of Speed riding high on momentum following back-to-back victories secured by Lando Norris in Hungary and the Netherlands. While those recent triumphs have energized the entire factory, team leadership remains fully aware that Monza's distinct low-downforce layout will present an entirely different competitive challenge.

The upcoming Italian Grand Prix places an absolute premium on high-speed efficiency, long straightline speed, and heavy braking stability.
