Subaru Recalls 540000 SUVs Over Weight Label Error
Subaru has launched a recall for more than 540,000 SUVs due to an incorrect weight limit label that increases crash risks.
Affected Models and Safety Risks
The Recall impacts an estimated 541,237 vehicles that fail to meet federal motor vehicle safety standards. The affected models include certain 2019–2026 Ascent models, 2025–2026 Foresters, and several hybrid models.
Regulators said the safety certification sticker displays an incorrect gross axle weight rating for the rear axle. If drivers rely on these figures, they could put dangerous strain on the tires and suspension.
Timeline and Company Response
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration first alerted Subaru about the issue in May. After an internal review of its calculations, the carmaker decided to conduct a safety Recall in late June.
Officials confirmed that no crashes or injuries have been reported in connection with the labeling error. Subaru expects to mail notification letters to affected owners starting on 25 August.
Instructions for Affected Owners
Owners will receive a second letter containing a corrected weight sticker free of charge. The package will include instructions on how to paste the new label over the incorrect one.
Drivers who prefer not to apply the sticker themselves can visit an authorized Subaru dealer. Technicians at the dealerships will install the new label free of charge.
