Scott Speed Sets Goodwood Record in 1000 HP Guntherwerks F-26

Driver Scott Speed discusses setting the fastest road-legal time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in a 1,000-horsepower Guntherwerks F-26.

American racing driver conquered the famous in a road-legal car last week. He completed the narrow course in 50.41 seconds behind the wheel of a 1,000-horsepower .

Navigating the Narrow Goodwood Driveway

Speed set the fastest time for any road-legal car at this year's event. His time beat the second-quickest road car, a TWR Supercat, by more than four seconds.

The driver noted that practicing on standard tracks does not prepare anyone for Goodwood. The unusually narrow width of the course creates a unique and challenging environment for drivers.

Respecting the Limits and Weather

Consistent dry weather provided ideal track conditions throughout the weekend. Rain often transforms the course into a slick surface marked by mud from setup vehicles.

Speed emphasized that drivers must show respect for the event and its hay-bale barriers. Competitors leave safety margins near high-risk areas like the infamous brick wall.

Handling the High Powered Machine

The 1,000-horsepower Guntherwerks car features a balanced setup despite its rear-engine layout. Speed praised the positive front-end feel that allowed precise control through corners.

A lack of heavy downforce enabled controlled slides at high speeds. Speed explained that this characteristic made the vehicle exceptionally fun and responsive to drive.
