Argentinian President Javier Milei has launched a vigorous political push to bring Formula 1 back to Buenos Aires, riding on the immense popularity of Alpine driver Franco Colapinto. During a high-profile meeting with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem in the Argentinian capital, Milei emphasized that the nation possesses the racing heritage and institutional backing required to host motorsport's premier championship.
"We have the tradition, we have the drivers, and we are now regaining the institutional credibility that these categories demand before a country is chosen," Milei stated during discussions regarding a potential grand prix comeback nearly 30 years after the country last hosted an F1 race in 1998.

"Can Argentina organise F1? Yes. Do they deserve it? I would say yes. But we have 24 grands prix in the calendar. We can go to 25, but that is extremely difficult," Ben Sulayem explained to reporters following his inspection of the remodeled circuit designed by renowned architect Hermann Tilke.
F1 commercial rightsholders are looking for a sustainable five-year business plan and steady financial backing rather than a temporary surge in interest driven purely by a single homegrown driver. Despite ongoing enthusiasm from fans and government officials, securing a permanent calendar slot will demand extensive financial commitment and strategic planning.
The upcoming MotoGP return in 2027 will serve as a vital operational test for Buenos Aires to demonstrate its capability to manage major international racing events.
