Ryanair Passenger Recounts Horrifying Plane Window Incident
A Ryanair passenger survived being partially pulled out of a plane window after flying debris shattered the glass at 15,000 feet.
Terrifying Moments at High Altitude
Ljubisa Karovic was traveling on a Malta Air service to Germany when an explosion shattered his window. The rapid decompression caused the 61-year-old passenger to lose consciousness as air rushed out of the cabin.
His lawyer stated that Karovic was hurled out of the window from his chest up. The aircraft was traveling at speeds exceeding 600km/h at an altitude of 15,000 feet when the incident occurred.
Passengers Rescue Unconscious Traveler
Karovic survived after his wife and fellow passengers pulled him back inside the aircraft. Svetlana Karovic rushed three rows forward to grab her husband while he remained suspended outside.
Passengers then used a suitcase to block the open window after a bag was immediately sucked out. Karovic received treatment for neck injuries, shoulder trauma, and severe friction burns following the emergency landing.
Investigation Underway Following Emergency
Flight records show the Boeing 737 climbed past 15,000 feet before making an emergency descent. The crew circled for 30 minutes to burn fuel before landing safely back in Greece.
Investigators suspect foreign-object damage caused the initial engine failure. The US National Transportation Safety Board is now leading the formal investigation into the incident.
