Subaru Recalls Half a Million SUVs Over Label Error
Subaru has issued a recall for 541,237 vehicles in the US because of incorrect weight rating labels that could lead to overloading.

Incorrect Axle Weight Ratings
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the Recall this week. The agency said the federally required certification label displays the wrong rear axle Gross Axle Weight Rating. This error affects a total of 541,237 vehicles.
The Gross Axle Weight Rating defines the maximum weight a single axle can safely support. This differs from the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, which measures the total allowed weight of the entire car. Subaru confirmed the issue only impacts the rear axle measurements.
Vehicles Affected by Recall
The Recall includes the 2019–2026 Subaru Ascent and the 2025–2026 Subaru Forester and Forester Hybrid. The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is also included in the Safety campaign. The manufacturer believes every single vehicle in this specific population contains the printing error.
Subaru warned that the incorrect label could cause owners to load too much weight onto the back of the car. The company did not state the exact weight difference printed on the labels. Overloading a vehicle can damage the suspension and increase the risk of a crash.
Fixing the Label Mistake
Owners will not need to take their cars to a mechanic to resolve the problem. Subaru plans to mail new, corrected labels directly to the affected customers. Owners can easily stick the new label over the incorrect one at home.
The Japanese carmaker confirmed that dealers will install the label for free if owners prefer. The replacement parts will become available to the public in January 2027. No injuries or accidents have been reported in connection to the labeling flaw.
