Lando Norris claimed pole position for the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix after delivering a stunning late lap at the Hungaroring. The McLaren driver snatched the top spot by a mere 0.012 seconds, denying Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton a historic pole position in a tense conclusion to Saturday's session.

"Very happy to be back on top. [It was] a tough, tough quali," said Norris. "Obviously, these guys here were very quick, and it's been pretty tight the whole weekend, but we've seemed quick from the first laps that we did."

Hamilton had looked poised to secure pole after setting a blistering pace earlier in Q3, but a late surge from the reigning champion turned the tables. The seven-time world champion qualified second but faced a post-session investigation over an alleged impeding incident involving Oscar Piastri.

"We were quickest throughout qualifying, so it definitely got away from us," Hamilton remarked following the session, expressing frustration over team strategy choices and grip levels during the final runs.

The competitive battle at the tight and twisty circuit was further complicated by track conditions and late yellow flags. George Russell suffered a dramatic end to his session when his Mercedes broke down on track due to a water leak, leaving him seventh fastest.

Oscar Piastri voiced sharp criticism after the session, accusing Hamilton of failing to check his mirrors and blocking him at Turn 1 during a crucial flying lap. Stewards launched an immediate investigation into the incident, adding extra tension to the front-running garage.

Max Verstappen also found himself caught up in the late-session chaos, spinning at the final corner and triggering yellow flags that disrupted the final flying laps of several trailing contenders.
