Porsche 911 Flachbau RS has officially broken cover as an extraordinary one-off project crafted by the automaker's exclusive Sonderwunsch department for a private client. Taking inspiration from the iconic 1980s slantnose 930 models and the legendary 935 race cars, this bespoke creation breathes new life into a customer-owned 2018 991.2 generation GT2 RS.
"Converting the car to a slantnose model proved to be very challenging, even though we left the drive unchanged, in agreement with the customer," said Porsche's vice president for product offering and individualisation, Alexander Fabig. The ambitious build required extensive development, including digital crash simulations, physical wind tunnel testing, and the creation of dedicated test vehicles.

SubscribeThe bespoke machine features a completely redesigned front end with flatter wheel arches, slatted air outlets to reduce wheel well pressure, and staggered LED lighting units. Aerodynamic upgrades developed alongside Manthey Racing, combined with a rear wing inspired by the limited-edition 911 GT3 R Rennsport, help generate massive downforce while keeping the car fully road-legal.
Inside, the cabin underwent rigorous weight-saving measures, stripping out infotainment systems, audio equipment, and sound-deadening materials to shed 31.6 kilograms compared to the donor car. Finished in Grand Prix White with a 1974 911 color match, the interior features bold black, white, and red styling accents alongside carbon bucket seats bearing Nürburgring Nordschleife embroidery.

Underneath the striking custom bodywork, the mechanical heart remains faithful to the donor vehicle, utilizing a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre flat-six engine pumping out roughly 690 horsepower paired with a PDK transmission. Although the exact multi-million euro price tag remains private, the car highlights the immense capabilities of Porsche's custom fabrication division.
The creation of the Flachbau RS highlights the expanding role of Porsche's Sonderwunsch program, which handles highly tailored factory one-offs and vintage restorations. Commissioning a bespoke vehicle of this caliber is an intensive multi-year journey for clients, often spanning nearly three years from initial concept phases to final execution.
"Our aim was to reinterpret the look of the 935 without compromising on safety, technology or road-legality," noted Fabig regarding the meticulous engineering process. Every modification, from the altered fuel filler system to the custom magnesium wheels wrapped in Michelin Cup 2 R tires, was rigorously evaluated to ensure factory-level standards.
While trademark filings for the Flachbau and Flachbau RS names have sparked industry speculation about future limited runs, representatives indicate that this specific configuration will remain entirely unique. However, the return of the flatnose design proves that Porsche is willing to fulfill extraordinary customer requests if they align with the brand's storied motorsport heritage.
