Jenson Button also heaped praise on his former rival, drawing direct parallels between racing against Alonso and fighting legendary German driver Michael Schumacher.
"The biggest compliment I can give Fernando is that fighting him was very similar to fighting with Michael Schumacher," Button explained.
"In my experience against them it would be hard but fair – it was on the limit every time and I loved that."
Button added that Alonso's unique driving style, aggression, and adaptability make him stand out instantly on the grid compared to any other contemporary driver.
