Alex Albon has committed his future to Williams by signing a contract extension for the 2027 Formula 1 season, providing a boost of stability to the historic Grove-based outfit amidst a challenging competitive period.

Albon first joined Williams in 2022 following stints with Toro Rosso and Red Bull, and has since grown to become the longest-serving driver in the current squad while cementing his role as a team leader.

The decision comes during a difficult 2026 campaign where Williams has struggled under the new technical regulations, leaving the FW48 off the competitive pace and sitting ninth in the Constructors" Championship.

Despite scoring points in only two of the first eleven grands prix of the year, Albon maintains strong confidence in the team's long-term project and engineering response.

"Of course, it has been a frustrating year so far, but it doesn't make me not believe in this team and its ambitions, and what I believe the team can achieve," Albon stated regarding his choice to stay.

The new medium-term agreement highlights both parties" desire for flexibility while focusing heavily on rectifying deep-seated performance issues that have affected the car's handling over recent seasons.

Williams team principal James Vowles has welcomed the contract extension, describing Albon as a crucial anchor for the organization's ongoing technical transformation.

"Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the enormous improvements we have made in recent years, and re-signing him shows the belief we both have in the direction we are heading," Vowles said.
