Will Lankshear Leaves Tottenham for Middlesbrough in Deal Up to £20m
Will Lankshear has written an emotional farewell message on Instagram following his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Middlesbrough in a £20m deal.
Striker Bids Farewell to North London
The striker posted an emotional message on Instagram to express his gratitude to the staff, teammates, and supporters at North London. He reflected on his four seasons with Spurs before completing his move to Teesside.
In his social media post, Lankshear stated, "After 4 incredible seasons at Tottenham, my time has come to an end. I’d like to thank all the staff, players and fans for making my time so enjoyable and helping me along the journey. Tottenham will always be engraved in my heart. Thank you"
Middlesbrough secured Lankshear on a five-year contract after competing against multiple Championship and international clubs. The transfer guarantees Spurs an initial £8m to £10m fee, with performance-related add-ons potential pushing the total to £20m alongside a 20% sell-on clause.
Development and Academy Success at Spurs
Lankshear joined Tottenham's academy from Sheffield United in August 2022 for approximately £2m. He rapidly progressed through the development setup to become one of the academy's top prospects.
The forward finished as top scorer during the Under-21 team's Premier League 2 title-winning campaign in 2024. His performances that season earned him the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award.
First Team Breakthrough and EFL Loans
Lankshear made his senior competitive debut for Tottenham in October 2024 against Ferencváros in the UEFA Europa League. He registered his first senior goal for the club against Galatasaray one month later.
To gain senior experience, the attacker spent productive loan spells in the Championship with West Bromwich Albion and Oxford United. His move to Middlesbrough now provides a permanent platform to play regular first-team football.
