The Australian motorsport star started third on the grid and brilliantly seized the lead by the end of the opening lap, only for his afternoon to unravel following the prang with Sainz, who failed to yield under blue flags.

Piastri ultimately failed to finish the race due to a subsequent gearbox issue, compounding a deeply disappointing weekend at the very circuit where he claimed his maiden Formula One victory two years prior.
Oscar Piastri also directed his fiery frustration toward his own McLaren pit wall for failing to protect his track position during the crucial phase of the race.
"Oh mate, it's better you don't f* talk to me right now," Piastri told his race engineer over the radio, sarcastically thanking the team for leaving him vulnerable to traffic.
Speaking to media after the race, the McLaren driver did not hold back, labeling Sainz's defensive maneuver as completely unacceptable and among the dumbest things he had witnessed in professional motorsport.
